Duchamp didn’t make Fountain (1917) by hand and it shocked the art world one hundred years ago. To this day, the basic question this artwork raised is still being asked: in order for an artwork to attain legitimacy is an artist required to make it themselves?

Handmade addresses this question by rethinking this derivative work, making it by hand, and placing it on a pedestal It is ceramic and full of stylistic one-of-a-kind imperfections, so it must be art.
